Follow along as the Buckeyes take on the Herd.

COLUMBUS, Ohio– Ohio State got off to about as good of a start to the season as the Buckeyes could have hoped. As expected, the Scarlet and Gray blew out Akron and Western Michigan in the opening two weeks of the year before an off week last weekend. Coming out of the off week, Ohio State remains at No. 3 in the latest rankings.
The Buckeyes return to action on Saturday afternoon when Marshall makes the trip to Ohio Stadium. Also coming into this contest after an off weekend, the Thundering Herd are 1-1 with a win against Stony Brook and a blowout loss at Virginia Tech. This game will be the third meeting between Ohio State and Marshall, with the Buckeyes owning a 2-0 record against the Thundering Herd.
Head coach Ryan Day hopes to move to 20-5 against non-conference games with a win against Marshall. The Scarlet and Gray hope to do that behind an offense that ranks No. 8 in the country, averaging543.5 yards per game, and the nation's top-ranked total defense, conceding 138.0 yards per game. The six points allowed by Ohio Statethrough the first two games so far in 2024 is the third-fewest allowed by the Buckeyes in 75 years.

HALFTIME THOUGHTS
I expected some rust coming off of the open weekend, but this has lasted far longer than I anticipated. Ryan Day talked about how good weeks of practice lead to good performances and didn't sound convinced on Wednesday that the Buckeyes had good first two days of practice. It will be interesting to get his thoughts postgame.
Were we too quick to crown this defense? I still think it's a good group but maybe not as good as we thought. Or maybe not as focused as we thought and paid for it in the first half. The 203 yards allowed in the first half are the most by an Ohio State opponent this season. The secondary hasn't been able to cover consistently and the pressure hasn't come enough when needed. Got to get things fixed in the locker room before you start thinking about other opponents.
While the offense put up 307 first half yards, 154 of that came on two plays. This has not been as dominant as a performance as the numbers may reflect. Some of that has to do with only having the ball for about eight minutes.
